I love your site. I am just getting into accounting and finance and trawling through the web trying to find great sites. Yours is definitely a great site. Thanks for the great discussion and interesting writings. I am trying to find some other sites similar to the introduction to financial ratios section at http://www.thefinanceowl.com . Can anybody recommend anything?
Yours Maggie

I'd like to see any employment where the pay rates are significantly reduced during 'employment' and the 'employee' receives no holiday pay or sick pay. But then, perhaps, the Government are about to alter employment laws!

The golden rule is the cost must be incurred wholly, exc.usively and necessarily for the purposes of the job. So, if you have to entertain customers, suppliers etc by taking them out to lunch every now and again you can claim this back (don't expect the employer to get a tax deduction if they reimbusre the cost though).

Again, if you need to keep some technical knowledge up to date for the purposes of your employment you can claim for this type of training..

It is only possible to claim a round sum allowance if this has been agreed in advance with the Taxman (which he is not guaranteed to do!).

Sometimes you cannot get receipts, e.g. from a drinks vending machine but if you keep good records of how much you spent and when and it all looks reasonable you should be okay. Obviously, keep receipts wherever possible though.

Unfortunately, not. Cars are one of the few exceptions but it does cover all plant and machinery and computer equipment. Please note all we have is general guidance notes at this time - detailed legislation should be available nearer the date of introduction.

how does this affect you if you are tax registered? also can you claim a flat rate? or does everything need individual receipts (not always possible).

That's good news. I'm a performer and in my business it's very common to get perdiems when I travel. Often i have to pay for food and lodging out of my own fee. I always keep receipts, however is it possible to claim a blanket daily perdiem (subsistence) rate on my self assessment rather than keep every little receipt?

Because these so called Offshore banks are also onshore, this reporting their customers has come about. I have found a very interesting site on general offshore information www.offshorebusinessportal.com and another about a really private banking solution www.firstglobaltreasury.com I hope this is useful to other bloggers.
