HMRC telephone interventions

You may be aware of the new method the Taxman is using to make enquiries into tax returns - intervention letters. Well, we are now hearing of intervention telephone calls which could be very dangerous.

If a taxpayer is caught on the hop they could easily reveal too much informaiton in a seemingly innocent discussion with the specially trained tele-Taxman. The conversations are recorded so could easily come back to haunt you later.

Our advice is to be short and polite with the Taxman and say that you have nothing to say until you have spoken to your accountant. That way you can give a more considered reply to any questions.

Remember, if in doubt - say nothing!
