Reading the small print has revealed that the cost of tax discs for older, higher polluting cars is going up.
Back in 2006 Gordon Brown said the new Band G rate of taxation (for cars emitting more than 225g/km of carbon dioxide) would only apply to cars registered after 23 March 2006. It now seems that cars up to seven years old will be affected by the change which sees the annual cost increase from £210 this year to £300 in 2009 and £455 in 2010.
However, as I write there is a back bench revolt on this issue so maybe we’ll see another climb down by Gordon Brown….?
